42 Cozy Fall Decor Ideas for the Home

As soon as I notice that the mornings are chilly and the evenings are darker, I’m ready for my house to feel like a big cozy sweater.

I don’t go wild with decorations, but I do swap out a few things to match the season.

I find I can get instant fall vibes with an eye-catching centerpiece, a plaid throw on the couch, and a cinnamon candle.

The twins roll their eyes when I start rearranging (maybe because they think I’m celebrating back to school too?).

But they love it, because they know the Halloween decorations are coming soon.

Anyway, here are some cozy fall decor ideas that will make your home feel super warm and inviting this season:

DIY Fall Decor Ideas

I’m all about saving money and getting creative when it comes to decorating my home.

Most of what I use I find at the dollar store or at thrift shops and it’s enough to bring on that cozy autumn vibe.

1. Painted Pinecone Garland

Grab a handful of pinecones (they’re free if you’ve got trees nearby, or you can buy a bag at the craft store).

Paint the tips with white or gold for a frosted look or paint them in solid fall colors.

Then hot glue them onto twine.

You can hang the garland across the fireplace, but they look cute on a window too.

2. Dried Orange Wreath

Slice up a few oranges and bake them at a low temp until they’re dry..

Your house is going to smell amazing by the way!

Then thread them onto a wreath frame with some twine.

Add cinnamon sticks or little sprigs of greenery if you want it to smell even cozier.

You can find the wreath frame at any craft store, or just bend a wire hanger into a circle.

3. Crocheted Pumpkin Coasters

If you crochet, these are a quick project with some orange and green yarn.

They’re basically just round coasters with a little stem stitched on top.

I’ve seen free patterns online, and they look adorable on a coffee table with mugs of hot cider.

4. Painted Terracotta Pots

Pick up a couple of small terracotta pots (the dollar store always has them).

Paint them with fall colors like rust, mustard, and cream.

Or paint them with cute pumpkin or mushroom designs.

Drop in a mini plant or a handful of candy corn.

They’re super easy, and they make nice little gifts too!

5. Yarn Tassels

Wrap some yarn around the rectangular piece of cardboard.

Slid it off and tie a piece of yard around the top then cut the bottom loop.

String a bunch of them together to make a garland.

Use thicker, chunky yarn if you want them to look extra poufy and cozy.

6. Centerpiece Vase

Grab a big clear vase (I just use the one I keep flowers in), and fill it autumn things like mini pumpkins or dried leaves.

It looks like something you’d see in a magazine, but it takes about five minutes to put together!

If you want to do the mini pumpkins, check the dollar store and see if they have any in their fall decor.

You can also check the grocery store for mini pumpkins (but that can get pricey and then you have to throw them out eventually).

7. Painted Mason Jar Centerpieces

Take a couple of mason jars and paint them a soft orange, then pop in dried sunflowers or faux stems.

If you don’t have mason jars at home, thrift stores usually have shelves full of them.

These look perfect lined up on a table or windowsill!

8. Button Pumpkin

Take an old picture frame or piece of reclaimed wood and paint it a soft white (or leave it plain).

Glue buttons into a pumpkin shape then paint on a stem.

You can add a twine bow for a really cute rustic look.

I like the look of buttons in different colors and sizes, but you can stick to one to give it a uniform look.

9. Sock Pumpkins

Sock pumpkins are super cute and super easy to make!

Take sock, stuff it with rice or polyfill (the stuff you stuff pillows with), and tie off the top.

Wrap twine around the body to make little pumpkin ridges, then stick a twig or cinnamon stick in for the stem.

These look so adorable grouped together on a shelf.

10. Leaf Bowl

This is something I know my kids would love to make!

Blow up a balloon, cover about half of it in leaves with Mod Podge, and let it dry.

Once it’s hardened, pop the balloon and you’ve got a decorative little bowl.

If you use enough Mod Podge, the leaves should last forever but you can also use fabric for a sturdier bowl.

11. Mini Pumpkin Candles

Carve out the center of a mini pumpkin, pour in melted candle wax, and add a wick.

It looks like something from Pinterest, but it’s really simple to make.

You can buy a candle-making kit online, or just melt down old candles you already have (money saving bonus!).

Farmhouse Fall Decor Ideas

I’m pretty sure the farmhouse style was made for fall!

The decor is already cozy with lots of wood, soft textures, and rustic touches.

But there are ways to to give this decor style a fall vibe:

12. Fabric Covered Pumpkins

Pick up some cheap foam or plastic pumpkins and wrap them in plaid fabric scraps.

Just tuck the fabric into the top with a twig or cinnamon stick for the stem.

You can even use old flannel shirts for this.

It makes them extra farmhouse-y and free if you’ve got one lying around!

13. Fall Blanket Ladder

Lean a wooden ladder against the wall and drape it with cozy throws in autumn colors.

Wrap a faux leaf garland around one side to tie the look together.

You can buy blanket ladders online or grab an old one at a yard sale and give it a quick sanding.

14. Tin Bucket Vase

Find a galvanized tin bucket (hardware stores usually have them, or check the garden section) and fill it with dried flowers or wheat stalks.

It’s the perfect rustic touch for an entryway or dining table.

I’ve even seen people stencil words like “Harvest” or “Gather” on the side.

15. Fall Foliage Coffee Station

Set up a wooden tray on your counter with a small vase of fall leaves, a pumpkin or two, and your favorite seasonal mugs.

It makes the whole coffee corner feel festive without much effort!

Dollar stores usually have cute fall mugs if you don’t want to splurge.

16. Autumn Tiered Tray Decor

Grab a two-tiered tray (they sell them everywhere now) and layer it with mini pumpkins, wooden cutouts, and faux leaves.

Add a little sign that says something seasonal like “Hello Fall” to finish it off.

It looks styled but only takes a few minutes to put together.

17. Chunky Crocheted Table Runner

If you crochet, a thick yarn runner looks amazing on a farmhouse table.

Stick with neutral colors like cream or tan so it works all season.

I’ve seen free patterns online that are beginner-friendly if you want to give it a try.

Or you can check the thrift stores for crocheted blankets, which would work too.

18. Fabric Scrap Garland

Cut strips of fabric in fall colors and tie them onto a long piece of twine.

If you want to give it an extra farmhouse touch, alternate the scraps of fabric with wooden beads.

Hang it on the mantel, across a window, or even along a shelf.

19. Yarn Covered Pumpkins

Wrap foam pumpkins in braided yarn to give them a chunky, cozy look.

Just grab some yarn and braid it (4-5 pieces of yarn per strand will give it that chunky look) before glueing it to a pumpkin.

Neutral shades like cream or gray make them perfect for farmhouse style but you can go for rust and mustard tones too.

You can find foam pumpkins at the craft store, and bulky yarn is easy to work with.

20. Rustic Milk Pitcher Vase

Find an old metal milk pitcher (or grab a replica at a home store) and fill it with fall foliage.

If you want to get crafty, you can paint it first (I like the ivory look myself).

Sunflowers, wheat, or even faux eucalyptus all look great in it

It can be used as a centerpiece or put on a kitchen counter for a farmhouse vibe.

Boho Fall Decor Ideas

Boho fall decor is all about mixing textures, colors, and handmade touches that feel a little artsy and a little cozy at the same time.

Most of these can be made with inexpensive craft supplies or even repurposed items you already have.

21. Tissue Paper Pom Poms

Grab some tissue paper in warm fall shades and fold, cut, and fluff it into big pom poms.

You can string them together for a garland or tape them to the wall for an instant backdrop.

Craft stores sell tissue paper packs super cheap, and you can make a bunch in one afternoon!

22. Painted Pumpkins

Instead of bright orange, go for soft pastels like dusty rose, sage green, or muted peach.

Just use acrylic craft paint and let them dry before displaying on shelves or your table.

These mix in perfectly with neutral decor for that boho vibe!

23. Pom Pom Branches

Make a bunch of pom poms with yarn in bold or earthy colors, then hot glue them onto twigs.

Pop the twigs into a vase and you’ve got a fun, textured arrangement.

Orange or mustard-colored pom poms look especially pretty for fall.

24. Pumpkin Vase With Dried Florals

Hollow out a medium-sized pumpkin, stick a jar or cup inside, and fill it with dried florals.

Pampas grass, eucalyptus, or wheat stalks look amazing in this.

If you want it to last longer, use a faux pumpkin instead!

25. Painted Acorns

Collect some acorns (or buy faux ones at the craft store) and paint them in fun patterns or colors

For a boho look, use those soft pastel colors and paint on flowers, leaves, or simple patterns.

Pile them into a bowl for an easy centerpiece on your table.

26. Wicker Trays on Wall

Here’s a super easy way to get a boho fall vibe in your home!

Hang a few wicker trays or baskets in different sizes for a textured wall display.

You can always find a bunch at thrift stores and sometimes dollar stores too.

It adds instant boho style and honestly, you can just keep them up all year long.

27. Macrame Wreath

I hope macrame is making a comeback because it’s a super cool boho look!

Start with a basic grapevine wreath form and add a few faux fall florals.

Then make a macrame wall hanger and attach it to the bottom of the wreath.

Macrame is super easy to do since it’s just tying knots to make beautiful patterns.

But if you don’t do macrame, you might be able to find some pre-made macrame trim.

28. Fabric Acorns

Take plastic Easter eggs, wrap them in fabric scraps for the bottom, then add twine around the top for the cap.

They turn out so cute and you can make a whole bowl of them super quick.

Use earthy-toned fabric to keep that boho look.

29. Twine Mushrooms

Cut a styrofoam ball in half for the cap, glue it on a toilet paper roll, and wrap both pieces in twine.

You end up with the cutest little rustic mushroom!

They look adorable grouped together on a shelf or tucked into fall displays.

30. Bandana Sunflower Wreath

Grab a bunch of yellow bandanas and tie them around a wire wreath frame to make big sunflower petals.

For the center, spiral some twine in the middle until it’s filled.

It’s such a fun, colorful project that definitely has boho energy.

32. Acorn and Pinecone Mobile

Hang the mobile on your porch where it can catch a little breeze.

It’s simple, rustic, and free if you collect the pieces outside!

Fill an old metal watering can with fall flowers like mums or sunflowers.

It looks especially nice placed by the front steps.

Thrift shops usually have watering cans if you don’t have one tucked away already.

34. Corn Stalks

Tie a few cornstalks together and stand them on either side of your front door.

They make a big statement for very little effort.

Farm stands often sell bundles this time of year.

This idea is super cute and rustic!

Take a couple of crates and paint them orange then use thick pieces of branches to make the stems.

Top it off with a burlap bow and place them anywhere in your yard.

36. Fall Wagon

If you’ve got an old wagon (wooden or metal ones work great), load it up with hay, pumpkins, or even potted mums.

Pull it right up to your steps for a cute rustic touch.

Or move it around to whereever you want it in your yard!

37. Hay Bales

Set a hay bale or two on your porch and layer them with pumpkins, lanterns, or scarecrows.

They add instant fall charm and work as a base for other decorations.

Farm supply stores usually sell them in small sizes that are perfect for porches.

38. Fall Wreath

Hang a big wreath on the front door made with faux leaves, mini pumpkins, or even burlap ribbon.

You can buy pre-made ones or make your own with a plain wreath form.

It’s one of the easiest ways to give your porch that seasonal feel!

39. Vertical Wooden Welcome Sign

Grab a tall wooden board, paint it in a fall color, and stencil “Welcome” down the length.

40. Fall Welcome Mat

Swap out your everyday doormat for one with a pumpkin, leaf, or “Hello Fall” design.
