18 Fall Fireplace Mantel Decorating Ideas

Fall is hands down my favorite time of year to decorate my home.

There’s just something about pulling out the pumpkins, adding those warm rusty oranges and creamy neutrals, and making every little corner of the house feel extra cozy.

And once that first cool fall day hits? I’m ready to bring out ALL the fall decor!

One of my favorite places to start is the fireplace mantel.

It’s such an easy spot to change with the seasons, and you really don’t need a ton of decorations to make it feel completely different. A few pumpkins, some pretty fall leaves, candles, a chunky garland or even a simple vase filled with branches can instantly give your living room that warm, cozy fall feeling.

And the best part is that there are so many ways you can decorate it!

You can go with a simple neutral fall mantel filled with white pumpkins and natural textures, lean into those rich autumn colors with burnt orange and burgundy, or create a full, layered look with garlands, candles, baskets and pumpkins everywhere.

So, if you’re ready to cozy up your living room for the season, I rounded up some of my favorite fall fireplace mantel decorating ideas to inspire you.

Grab your pumpkins and your favorite fall candle because we’re making that fireplace extra cozy this year!

1. Oversized Fall Garland Mantel

Go BIG with a thick fall garland instead of a tiny strand of leaves. Layer eucalyptus, maple leaves, berry stems and dried grasses across the mantel, then let one side cascade toward the floor. Tuck in mini pumpkins and battery-operated fairy lights to make everything feel extra cozy at night.

2. Vintage Gold Mirror + Pumpkins

Lean a large vintage-style gold mirror against the wall and build your fall decor around it. Add different-sized cream, rust and muted green pumpkins along the bottom with a few brass candlesticks mixed in. It has that collected-over-time look that feels so pretty without being overly themed.

3. The Viral Pumpkin Arch

Instead of keeping all the pumpkins on the mantel, create a pumpkin display that travels down one side of the fireplace. Use pumpkins in different sizes and colors mixed with faux greenery so it almost looks like they’re spilling onto the floor.

4. Floating Witch Hat Mantel

For a fun fall-to-Halloween transition, hang several black witch hats from clear fishing line above the fireplace. Keep the mantel underneath simple with black candlesticks, pumpkins and dried branches so the floating hats become the main feature.

5. Cozy Candle Mantel

Fill the mantel with battery-operated pillar candles in different heights. Weave a simple leafy garland between them and add a handful of mini pumpkins. When everything is glowing at night, your entire living room will feel warmer.

6. Dried Hydrangea Fall Mantel

This one is gorgeous if you like softer fall decor. Fill large vintage-looking vases with dried hydrangeas, eucalyptus and brown leaves, then add creamy pumpkins and wooden accents around them.

7. Fall Picture Frame Mantel

Thrift several vintage frames in different sizes and lean them against one another instead of hanging them. Mix in old landscape prints, fall artwork or pressed leaves and finish everything with pumpkins and candles.

8. Neutral Pumpkin Elegance

Cover your entire mantel with neutral pumpkins, eucalyptus leaves and candles for a chic look. Layer some hydrangea flowers and some soft fabric for the completed look.

9. Burnt Orange + Burgundy Mantel

If you LOVE traditional fall colors, embrace them. Layer deep burgundy leaves, burnt-orange pumpkins, dark berries and amber glass bottles. Add warm candlelight and you’ve got the moodiest cozy fall living room.

10. Thrifted Brass Candlestick Mantel

Collect mismatched brass candlesticks from thrift stores and arrange them across the mantel at different heights. Add taper candles in cream or rust and weave a simple fall garland between them. The mismatched look is what makes it so charming.

11. Giant Fall Branch Mantel

Skip the traditional garland and place one oversized vase on the mantel filled with tall branches of colorful fall leaves. Let the branches spread upward and outward for a dramatic look, then keep everything else simple.

12. Book Stack + Pumpkin Mantel

Stack a few old hardcover books along the mantel and place mini pumpkins on top. Add candles, little vases and trailing greenery between the stacks. It’s an easy way to create different heights without buying a bunch of new decor.

13. Moody Brown Fall Mantel

Instead of orange, decorate with chocolate brown, camel, cream and black. Use brown glass bottles, velvet pumpkins, dark branches and black candlesticks for a more modern fall look.

14. Fall Mantel With Hanging Leaves

Hang individual faux fall leaves from clear thread above the fireplace so they look like they’re slowly falling from the ceiling. Keep the mantel itself simple with pumpkins and greenery so the floating leaves stand out.

15. Basket-Filled Fireplace

Don’t forget the actual fireplace! If you’re not using it yet, fill the firebox with a large woven basket overflowing with cozy blankets, birch logs or pumpkins. Then coordinate the mantel decor above it.

16. Chunky Knit Pumpkin Mantel

Mix soft fabric pumpkins, chunky knit pumpkins and velvet pumpkins instead of using only traditional ones. Add dried leaves and wood bead garland for even more texture. This one feels especially cozy if you love that warm, handmade look.

17. Asymmetrical Fall Mantel

Rather than decorating both sides exactly the same, create one big statement arrangement on one end of the mantel. Use tall branches, pumpkins and cascading greenery on that side, then balance it with just a couple of candles on the other. It feels much more relaxed and modern.

18. Full Harvest Fireplace

If you’re like me and believe more fall is better, this is the one! Layer a thick garland across the mantel, add pumpkins, dried grasses, candles and fall leaves, then continue the pumpkins down onto the hearth. Add a basket of cozy blankets and a few lanterns beside the fireplace to make the whole area feel like one big fall display.
